The “Mainstreaming Sustainable Leadership in Europe” report gathers insights on the role of Sustainable Leadership for building a sustainable economy. At a time of disruption and disorientation, we need a renewed leadership that gives orientation, restores trust and drives positive action for a net-positive future. Developing the know-how for making our work, organisations and sectors sustainable, requires investing in our leadership capability.

The publication is dedicated to those leaders who want to move towards positive impact on the economic, ecologic and social dimensions of sustainability – through sustainable leadership and governance. Whether in business, policy-making, civil society or among social partners – leaders have great leverage. With a new mindset, outlook and practice, we can shape the world of work of tomorrow.

There are roughly 10 million managers in the EU alone. If we can get them on board to navigate the sustainability journey, the transition would beneft from sustainability influencers on investments, policy, business development and staff. This will require overcoming the Sustainable Leadership gap concering sustainability knowledge, values, skills, and practice, as evidenced by the covered research on sustainability among EU managers.

Annex: A Sustainable Work Agenda

The complement to the main report gives an overview on the employment-related aspects of mainstreaming sustainable leadership. It takes stock of EU legislative developments on sustainability, education and training policies, as well as opportunities for encouraging sustainable job creation.

The “Mainstraming Sustainable Leadership” report gathers the insights and recommendations of the “Sustainable Leadership Project” and decades of leadership experience brought together by the project partners of “Sustainable Leaders”. A special thank you to these project partners, as well as the CEC working group on Sustainable Leadership, and the Project Steering Committee.
